At Little Light of Mine, we believe that every child is unique, full of potential, and deserving of a joyful beginning. Our school is more than just a place to learn — it’s a nurturing community where children feel safe, loved, and inspired every single day.

Established in 1999, Little Light of Mine has thrived in Kankakee by providing children with a welcoming, safe and stimulating environment. Our children, parents, and teachers exude happiness as we experience a child’s first learning journey together. This is a time for children to play with enthusiasm, explore the environment, ask questions, and seek out new friendships. We are very glad to have you join us during this wonderful adventure!

With our after school program, parents have a place  they can feel safe and trusted with having their children dropped off. We provide a thoughtfully designed environment that supports exploration, creativity, and meaningful connections. Our dedicated team of certified teachers and staff work closely with families to guide each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development at their own pace.

Little Light of Mine's Philosophy
Little Light of Mine's philosophy is geared toward the developing child, enhancing their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth. We believe that children learn best through play. Our day is well planned with various activities and materials that promote this concept. The curriculum provides positive interaction with children and active hands on experiences with a wide variety of learning materials. As teachers and parents, we recognize the importance of peer interaction that offers positive relationships. We provide opportunities and support for cooperative and small group projects.

These opportunities develop cognitive abilities as well as positive peer interaction. Our goal, at Little Light of Mine is to instill a sense of pride and care for ourselves and for others. This goal will be accomplished by providing an environment that promotes these qualities. In return the children will be able to let their light shine.
